Mardi Paws Benefiting the Animal League of Birmingham

I believe in the healing power of pets.

From the seeing eyes of trained dogs helping those with visual impairments, search and rescue dogs, and other service animals to the wonders of compassion and comfort that only Fido and Fluffy can give us after a hard day-animals are amazing!

There is more and more research that shows first hand that pets are more than just companions, they are healers. So it only makes sense that a blog that supports potential and possibilities recognizes the shelters, organizations, and services that help our special animal missionaries find their forever home.

Please join The Animal League of Birmingham for a FUN, FANTABULOUS, and FESTIVE celebration!

Santa: Please don’t forget the Families of Safehouse in Shelby County

Domestic Violence is serious…and many times silent.  In the hustle and bustle of lights, music, and holiday cheer is someone who is hiding in fear and abuse. Just one phone call to get help can change that person and their children forever.

And that is where Safehouse of Shelby County comes in. When a parent seeks refuge from the storm of domestic violence, often times, Christmas may seem like another day.  For the children, this is the time when they need our community most.

From Safehouse:

SAFEHOUSE OF SHELBY COUNTY

How can I look into my children’s eyes, and explain why Santa didn’t come this year?

Dear Santa,

I’m sorry I did not get a chance to write you before Christmas. I had my letter to you written, but my dad was really mean to my mom again and we had to leave in a hurry. We ended up going to this place called SafeHouse. My sister and I were afraid that you wouldn’t find us. But Christmas morning there were gifts under the tree at the shelter for me and my sister.

Santa, thank you for caring about me, my sister and especially my mother.  Please tell God thank you too.

Love,

SafeHouse Client (Written by a child residing in a shelter)

Pelham, Alabama- December 1, 2011- Pelham based organization, SafeHouse of Shelby County is asking the community to make someone else’s holiday season very special by contributing Wal-Mart gift cards or monetary donations to the 2011 Gift of Giving Campaign.

People sometimes think of arthritis as an “old age” ailment but that is furthest from the truth. Did you know arthritis effects people of ALL AGES!!!

Actually, there are over 100 different types of Arthritis. The basic meaning of arthritis is from the Greek words “arthro” meaning joint (i.e. bone joints) and “itis” meaning inflammation although not all sufferers of arthritis necessarily have inflammation.

The Arthritis Foundation improves the lives of men, women, and children through it’s on-going leadership role in prevention, control, and discovering a cure of arthritis and related conditions.
