MEETING INFORMATION

All adults are welcome to our group – parents, grandparents, caregivers.

This casual setting offers help and support for those “need to know” questions about ADHD/ADD.

Dyslexia in Alabama: Resources to Help You!

 

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. 

Do you think your child may have dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that effects people of all ages. Dyslexia is genetic and affects 1 in 7 people.   It is a treatable condition and sometimes requires learning modification techniques or simply educating yourself on understanding more about the condition.

Some signs of dyslexia include:

 Difficulty learning to read or spell in school.
 Difficulty reading aloud.
 Does your child sometimes skip lines when reading?
 Does your child experience difficulty copying from the board or from paper to paper?
 Does your child get confused about following instructions, for example when playing a game?

 

In Alabama, there are many resources to help you.

FREE Dyslexia Testing from the Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation

The Alabama Scottish Rite Foundation provides testing and evaluation of children ages 6-16 years of age for dyslexia. They also provide the school systems with Orton-Gillingham Based Training Materials to help those diagnosed with dyslexia.

The Bell Center for Early Intervention KNOWS potential!!!

The Bell Center is dedicated to maximizing the potential of children from birth to three years of age who are at risk for developmental delay.
