Founder:
Nanci Neighbors Scarpulla was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama with strong Alabama roots all around the State. She attended grade school in the Birmingham area, college at Birmingham-Southern College (B.S. in Business Administration) and graduate school at the University of Montevallo (M.Ed. in Family and Marriage Counseling).
At a very early age (around 7) her mother introduced her to community services. Since then, she has been involved in volunteerism and community services in many capacities. She has been employed in both the private and non-profit sectors of business for over 20 years. She credits motherhood as her favorite, most rewarding career choice of all.
A fan of integrated counseling approaches including narrative therapy, she was introduced to blogging in Oct. 2009 and became an avid blogger. After helping co-found a blog to assist mother’s in the Birmingham area, Nanci formed Potential Birmingham to encourage families and friends to look beyond whatever disabilities them in life from living it to the fullest. She wanted to share the message that we all have potential and we can all look beyond whatever we think dis “ables” us from going forth and living a life of possibilities.
Nanci is the State Mom for the national site, MomTV.com where she is featured each week in a video segment on “What’s going on in Alabama”, a regular feature on “Joy in the Morning” on WORX Christian Radio with her parenting segment, “Parenting with Potential”, a contributory writer for several online and print publications, and is involved in many associations and civic organizations that promote community spirit and positive change within communities.
A wife and homeschooling mother of two, Nanci enjoys celebrating life each day with her family, friends, and her beloved pets, including her Basset Hound who has been known to blog as well.
